Drone use to check integrity of Philippine’s longest and highest bridges in Eastern Visayas

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones are now being utilized to check structural integrity of the country’s longest and highest bridges – the San Juanico Bridge connecting Samar and Leyte and Agas-Agas Bridge in Southern Leyte both located in Eastern Visayas.

In an event held recently, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Project Team presented to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) the initial findings of the first few drone inspections conducted earlier in November.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar administers the formal oath-taking of Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Tiburcio L. Canlas whose permanent position was earlier approved by the Office of the President, on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the DPWH Central Office, Bonifacio Drive, Port Area, Manila. Prior to his promotion, Regional Director Canlas served as the Assistant Regional Director of DPWH National Capital Region (NCR).

Villar relieves engineer involved in alleged extortion try

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar has relieved from assignment the District Engineer caught in a video footage allegedly doing an anomalous transaction with a contractor of a road project in the province of Ifugao.

In a memorandum dated November 14, 2018, Secretary Villar ordered District Engineer Lorna T. Ricardo to immediately vacate her post as district engineer of DPWH Abra District Engineering Office pursuant to the “Preventive Suspension” rule of the Revised Rules on Administrative Cases in Civil Service.
