Obando Flood Control Project

The national government thru the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is pursuing the construction of flood walls in flood prone areas to combat flooding within and outside of Metro Manila. DPWH Readies for "Green Building Code" Launch in 2015

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is at present crafting the Green Building Code (GBC), a separate referral code adherent to the National Building Code and its IRR.

DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson said that under the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBCP), the DPWH has the authority to revise, amend or create a separate referral code in conformation with NBCP and its IRR to safeguard life, health, property, and public welfare, consistent with the principles of environmental management and control.

DPWH Employs Women

The on-going Samar Road Rehabilitation Project under the United States Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Grant Secondary National Roads Development Program has provided equal employment opportunities for women to increase their productivity in line with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) poverty reduction program and women empowerment advocacy. Women local residents on the basis of proximity to project areas are tapped to direct vehicular traffic along the on-going 222 kilometer Samar Road Rehabilitation Project.

We wish to inform the public that as of 6:00AM of 17 July 2014, the following Major/Secondary Roads in Region V are PASSABLE/NOT PASSABLE due to the effects of Tropical Storm Glenda:

Bicol and Agusan Road Travel Advisory

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has alerted the District and Regional Office Disaster Risk Reduction Management Teams in Region 5 to undertake quick response to any eventualities that may be brought by Tropical Storm “Glenda”.

With the public storm warning raised over Bicol Region, DPWH equipment and skeletal force and camineros are on standby for response.

All road networks in the region are passable as of 6:30 this morning (July 15, 2014) as field monitoring is continuously being done.

DPWH Gets Gender Responsive Citation

A citation from Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) was given to the Department of Public Works and Highways for being one (1) of the four (4) top gender responsive agencies in the Search for the Most Outstanding Gender Responsive Agency under GADtimpala 2013 (Gender and Development Transformation and Institutionalization through Mainstreaming of Programs, Advocacies, Linkages and Actions) in upholding rights of women and gender mainstreaming efforts particularly in developing gender-responsive tools for infrastructure projects.
