JOBS JOBS JOBS: Construction sector posts 4M jobs

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported a year-on-year increase of 468,000 jobs generated in the construction sector based on a Labor Force Survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority in April 2018.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said, “We are elated with the strong performance of the construction sector. In April 2018, total employment in the sector reached 4.012 million from 3.544 million during the same period in 2017. This is a 13.2-percent increase.”

DPWH Employs Dependents of Marawi Heroes

The Department of Public Works and Highways has employed qualified dependents of soldiers and policemen who were either killed or wounded in action in the Marawi siege operation against the extremist Maute group.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, who also serves as the Vice Chair of Task Force Bangon Marawi, said 18 qualified dependents of casualties now work in the Department’s offices nearest to their place of living. The dependents were hired mostly as Administrative Aides and Laborers in DPWH Regional and District Engineering Offices.

Flood Control for Gattaran, Cagayan completed

A newly completed flood control structure of the Department of Public Works and Highways is now providing protection against flooding to thousands of residents of Gattaran, Cagayan Province.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH-Region 2 Director Melanio C. Briosos said that an amount of P73 million was allocated to complete the Gattaran Flood Control project that covers construction of 171 meters of rubble concrete revetment with a diameter of 0.60 meter and length of 8.80 bored piles and steel sheet piles supported by hexapods.

DPWH builds road for adventure tourism in Zambales

Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the DPWH is targeting to complete the construction of the 5 kilometers missing gap at Zambales Section of the 81 kilometers Capas (Tarlac Province) -Botolan (Zambales Province) Road this November.

DPWH Responds to 5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Aftershock

A month and a half after the 6.5-magnitude earthquake that struck the province of Leyte last July 6, 2017, another magnitude 5.1 aftershock hit the area at around 6:26 AM on Wednesday, August 23, 2015. Trauma was yet again experienced by the citizens. From the statement of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the epicenter of the said earthquake was Talisayan, Albuera, Leyte, an area near the previous epicenter—Ormoc.
