Bicol and Agusan Road Travel Advisory

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has alerted the District and Regional Office Disaster Risk Reduction Management Teams in Region 5 to undertake quick response to any eventualities that may be brought by Tropical Storm “Glenda”.

With the public storm warning raised over Bicol Region, DPWH equipment and skeletal force and camineros are on standby for response.

All road networks in the region are passable as of 6:30 this morning (July 15, 2014) as field monitoring is continuously being done.

DPWH Gets Gender Responsive Citation

A citation from Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) was given to the Department of Public Works and Highways for being one (1) of the four (4) top gender responsive agencies in the Search for the Most Outstanding Gender Responsive Agency under GADtimpala 2013 (Gender and Development Transformation and Institutionalization through Mainstreaming of Programs, Advocacies, Linkages and Actions) in upholding rights of women and gender mainstreaming efforts particularly in developing gender-responsive tools for infrastructure projects. Construction of P55-M Flood Control Projects in Bataan Underway

Five (5) flood mitigation projects are being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Pilar, Bataan.

DPWH Bataan 2nd Assistant District Engineer (ADE) Ma. Janet Nero said that three (3) of the five (5) projects are directly handled by their office while the remaining two (2) are under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Local Government but remains under the DPWH supervision.

Offshore Dredging Not Within DPWH Mandate

“We did not issue any dredging permit to any entity or contractor for the offshore dredging activities in Ilocos Sur. Issuance of offshore dredging or mining permits is not within the mandate of the Department of Public Works and Highways,” said DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson.

Secretary Singson has issued this clarification due to reports that DPWH allegedly has issued dredging permits to the thirteen (13) sea vessels doing offshore dredging or mining activities in the vicinity of Puro, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur.

Mobile Flood Fighting Equipment

To support the flood fighting activity of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), eight (8) new mobile drainage pumps were handed-over to the Government of the Philippines by the Government of Japan under the Grant Aid Program for the Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Disaster Risk Management in the Philippines. Mounted on each truck are Japan manufactured mobile drainage pump capable of draining water ten (10) times more than ordinary fire engine, built-in standby generator set, hose and other accessories.

Widened Libingan ng Mga Bayani Road

The DPWH First Metro Manila District Engineering Office undertakes the widening of Libingan ng mga Bayani Road in Taguig City, probably the only and the last remaining national road in Metro Manila which was recently rehabilitated from its original two (2) lane asphalt road into a four (4) lane PCCP road. When completed, this 1.12 kilometer long road rehabilitation project will boast of its four (4) lane 300 mm. thick PCCP roadway, with brick finished reinforced concrete island divider and state of the art LED Street Lighting System.

Makati-Pateros River Works

The Bank Improvement/Slope Protection along Makati-Pateros River, District II, Makati City, was undertaken to protect the existing dike and facilitate easy access in the cleaning of the river.

With a contract amount of ₱15,894,124.40, the project was implemented by DPWH Metro Manila II District Engineering Office (MMIDEO).
