DPWH RO 8 Bares 36.85% Accomplishment of CY 2016 Infrastructure Program

In a report by OIC-Regional Director Edgar B. Tabacon, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VIII bares 36.85% overall accomplishment versus 37.38% target of CY 2016 Infrastructure Program of DPWH Regional Office 8 as of June 2016.

Of the 13 District Engineering Offices (DEOs) of the Eastern Visayas Region, Biliran DEO is the TOP PERFORMER with 76.97% percent accomplishment.

DPWH-Installed Gabions Reduced Landslide Along Southern Leyte Highways to 40%

Landslide vulnerability along roadsides in Southern Leyte has reduced from 80 percent to 40 percent, with the Department of Public Works and Highways’ installation of gabions along critical areas.

DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (SLDEO) District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia said about three-kilometer stretch of the province’s highway is now protected with gabions - an effective and economical long term solution to prevent soil erosions from blocking our roads, especially during rainy days.

DPWH Southern Leyte Reports 69% Completion Rate of 2016 Projects

It was a productive first semester for the Department of Public Works and Highways – Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) with the attainment of 69 percent accomplishment for 2016 projects.

District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia of the DPWH-SLDEO said the field office surpassed the 50 percent target set by the central office for the first six months of the year. The field office is tasked to carry out PHP1 billion worth of projects. About P941.46 million were obligated and P244.18 million has been disbursed during the first half of the year.

San Fernando Bypass Now Open to Two-Way Traffic

The Department of Public Works and Highways has lifted the one-way traffic scheme on portion of San Fernando-San Juan Bypass Road which is undergoing road rehabilitation and repair.

Motorists can now ply along the bypass road both northbound and southbound directions but will have to follow a “stop and go” traffic scheme particularly at section KM270+000 to KM274+800 where some lanes are closed for repair.

Informative traffic signs are in place to guide motorists who are also advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.

Employ Women in DPWH Infra Projects, Contractors Urged

The DPWH implemented the provisions of RA 6685 and RA 9710, more known as the Magna Carta of Women with released of Department Order No. 130.

The DO urges the DPWH regional and district offices including contractors and subcontractors to make the minimum percentage of 50% of unskilled labor requirements and 30% of skilled labor requirements equally accessible to both women and men, with women comprising 20% of the required workforce.
