It was a productive first semester for the Department of Public Works and Highways – Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) with the attainment of 69 percent accomplishment for 2016 projects.
District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia of the DPWH-SLDEO said the field office surpassed the 50 percent target set by the central office for the first six months of the year. The field office is tasked to carry out PHP1 billion worth of projects. About P941.46 million were obligated and P244.18 million has been disbursed during the first half of the year.
“Aside from preparing early for the implementation of 2016 projects and regular inspection of ongoing projects, another factor was the very cooperative weather during the first half of the year,” Junia said.
As of June 30, the DPWH-SLDEO has already completed 23 out of the 84 regular projects. Completion rate for all of the 61 ongoing projects is within the timetable.
Finished projects include the rehabilitation of six (6) bridges within the major thoroughfares. These are the P9.2 million Calayugan Bridge, P5.1 million Maslog Bridge I, P6.1 million Maslog Bridge II, P15 million Pintuyan Bridge, P7.9 million San Ricardo Bridge, and P9.1 million Timba Bridge.
Completed roads are the P2 million paving of cemetery road in Silago, P3 million paving of road leading to Danao Camp Tree Park in Maasin City, P2 million road concreting of Esperanza to Pinut-an in San Ricardo, P2 million concreting of Mahalo to Maningawong access road in Anahawan, ; P2 million municipal access road in Pintuyan, P2 million paving of Guadalupe to San Isidro Road in macrohon; and P2 million concreting of Bancas to Ambacon Road in Hinunangan.
For dike construction, finished projects are located in Zone 1, Sogod town (P2 million); town center, Liloan (P3 million); coastal areas of San Francisco (P2 million); and Barangay San Jose, San Juan town (P2 million).
Other finished infrastructure are the P1 million improvement of multi-purpose gymnasium in Padre Burgos town, P2 million Magallanes multi-purpose building in Limasawa, P2 million evacuation center in Libagon, P1.5 million covered court in Hinundayan, P2 million multi-purpose building in Hinundayan, and P1.7 million school building in Libagon National High School.
“I would like to commend all engineers and field workers for their hard work in the past six months. We did everything to speed up projects in order to improve road accessibility for better mobility of people and products,” Junia said.
Aside from 2016 regular projects, the SLDEO has also been implementing several projects from various sources. These are school building projects from the Department of Education, special road support fund from the Road Board, farm-to-market roads from the Department of Agriculture, P8 million repair and maintenance of flood control and drainage structures.
