Secretary Mercado Lauds DPWH Teams Skipping Holidays to Aid Odette-Ravaged Areas

"While most are taking a break this holiday season, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Quick Response Teams are out in the field working tirelessly to clear roads and help our kababayans affected by Typhoon Odette."

DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado made the statement, as he expressed his appreciation to the men and women personnel and officials of the Department who are part of the DPWH Special Task Force on Typhoon Odette and Quick Response Teams.

Secretary Mercado said that the campaign to revitalize center island of roads coupled with the strategy to instill a cleanliness discipline will make a healthier Metropolis that will have implications to the entire nation with Metro Manila being the major gateway of the Philippines.

DPWH Intensifies Effort to Improve Capacity of Bulacan Bypass Road

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has intensified efforts for the construction of additional two (2) lanes at the 24 kilometers Arterial Road Bypass Project (ARBP) Phase 3 in the Province of Bulacan.

Secretary Roger G. Mercado declared that the bypass road gives better connectivity to San Rafael and other eastern Bulacan towns from the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Balagtas exit.

Better economic opportunities await Calbayog City and other parts of Samar Province with the Capoocan-Dagum Diversion Road planning to be built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Samar Province.

According to a report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar by Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno, the proposed Capoocan-Dagum Diversion Road will start alongside Matobato Elementary School in Barangay Capoocan going through an intersection in Caramel Subdivision and Pagbalican Road until it reaches its endpoint in Calbayog Diversion Road at Barangay Dagum.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced the completion of tourism access road leading to Anas View deck in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.

Secretary Villar said that the then-dusty and bumpy road has been rehabilitated into a two-lane concrete tourism road providing easy access for locals and nature-loving tourists.

According to DPWH Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno, the P22.6-million access road provides tourists with scenic views of the historic island of Limasawa, Sogod Bay to the East, and Bohol Sea to the west.

New Hanging Bridge Connects Local Community in Nueva Ecija

Residents of the adjacent Barangays of Berang and San Pedro in the Municipality of Sta. Rosa in Nueva Ecija lauded the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the completion of a hanging bridge that now connects the two villages separated by a creek.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Ricardo M. Puno said that residents no longer use wooden rafts pulled by a rope to reach the other barangay with the establishment of the 97-meter bridge that provides a better and safer connection.
