Hundreds of thousands of Ilocano students are now utilizing 708 new school buildings completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In his report to DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson, DPWH Region 1 Director Melanio C. Briosos said since 2013. The regional office and its ten (10) District Engineering Offices (DEOs) were able to complete 406 school buildings under “School and Regular School Building Program” of the Department of Education (DepEd).

A total of 185 school buildings funded under Basic Facilities in 2013 were also completed, while 92 buildings funded in 2015 for Senior High School including Technical Vocational Facilities, Elementary and Junior School were 100% accomplished.

Additional 25 school buildings funded by Silid Aralan Project of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation were also accomplished by the DPWH.

Regional Director Briosos said the remaining 229 on-going school buildings projects are expected to be completed within the year.

“We aim to finish remaining projects before 2016 ends. This will help in the realization of having a conducive, useful, and enjoyable classroom that may help Ilocano students to become better citizens,” said Briosos.
