The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a new facility to better serve and support the residents of The Haven for Women, a residential care facility in Alabang, Muntinlupa City that provides temporary shelter to women who are victims of gender-based violence.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the building improvement project implemented by the DPWH Las Piñas-Muntinlupa District Engineering Office, underscores President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administration’s commitment to upholding women’s rights, and creating safe environments especially for women who are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.
The civil works include a single-storey multipurpose building project measuring 290 square meters, designed to provide the much-needed additional living space for the Department of Social Welfare and Development-run shelter.
The new building has been allocated P9.65 million for Phase 1 under 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). This in addition to previously earlier completed construction and rehabilitation projects at The Haven with combined allocation of P29.34 million from 2022 to 2024.
The facility may also be used as an evacuation center during of disasters and other emergencies.
“We hope that when completed, this new PWD-friendly building with improved ventilation, lighting, and insulation will be a comfortable living space that promotes healing, growth, and empowerment,” said Secretary Bonoan.
