The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is undertaking the construction of a new diversion road that will relieve traffic congestion and facilitate a more convenient travel in the municipality of Tupi, South Cotabato.

In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 12 Director Basir M. Ibrahim mentioned that the 3.12-kilometer by-pass along Banga-Tupi-Malungon Road is being constructed to improve mobility and facilitate higher income returns for local farmers and business owners in the area.

“To realize the Bagong Pilipinas vision of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DPWH ensures that road networks provide faster trips without compromising the safety of travelers, especially in rural areas where the roads also serve as a lifeline by linking locals to essential services and facilitating economic development,” said Secretary Bonoan.

Aside from economic benefits, the project would also help in lessening deterioration along the main highway by creating an alternative route that can accommodate heavy trucks.

Costing ₱192 million, the project also involves the construction of a lined canal, slope protection using coco-nets and coco-logs, made of coconut coir fiber made into geonets which hold soil in place and prevent erosion.

Meanwhile, the Build Better More Program is also underway along Banga-Tupi-Malungon Road with a slope protection project amounting ₱48 million from 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

With an accomplishment rate of 68.30 percent, the project is expected to be completed within the third quarter of 2025.
