Significant improvement in road safety and quality are underway in Ormoc City, Leyte as the ongoing road rehabilitation project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along a landslide-prone section of Curva-Domonar Road pushes forward.

The ₱94.7-million project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas where roads are not only built to connect but also to protect through enhanced safety design.

Presently at more than 93 percent, the DPWH is fast tracking the project which involves the concrete paving of 5.52-lane kilometers of carriageway and installation of 4,419.14 square meters of slope protection structures along the road closely situated to agricultural terrains to achieve the target schedule of completion within the third quarter of 2025.

Citing a report from DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the improved road will link the rural barangays of Curva and Domonar and will facilitate smoother mobility of people, goods, and services, specifically agricultural produce ranging from crops to fruits, such as rice, pineapple, coconut, and sugarcane.

In addition, DPWH is also undertaking the repair and improvement of slope protection along Milagro-Hibunaon Road in Ormoc City costing ₱37.34 million, along with five (5) new road construction in Barangays San Manlilinao to San Sebastian, San Juan, Bagong, and Juaton to Dolores with combined allocation of ₱151.45 million from the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“Ensuring safe and reliable road connections between rural areas and commercial centers is one of President Marcos Jr.’s priorities under the Build Better More Program, which is expected to stimulate economic growth and expand livelihood opportunities,” added Secretary Bonoan.
