New structures by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now aid in the floodwater discharge of Balihatar Creek in the City of Las Piñas.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH National Capital Region Director Loreta M. Malaluan cited the project which was completed by the DPWH Las Piñas-Muntinlupa District Engineering Office (DEO) in an effort to prevent flooding within the creek’s surrounding area.

“Box culvert and retaining wall were constructed along the 416.6-meter section of Balihatar Creek. These structures help widen the waterway and ensure unobstructed water flow, protecting nearby homes and other structures,” said Director Malauan.

“Come rainy season, residents are assured of a barrier that can withstand the overflowing of floodwater, which would reduce occurrence of flooding in the area,” added Director Malauan.

The flood control project along Balihatar Creek was completed by the DPWH Las Piñas-Muntinlupa DEO in the amount of P47.03 million.
