The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the construction of a flood mitigation structure along Pampanga River ensuring the protection of low-lying communities in Jaen, Nueva Ecija against river water overflow.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Central Luzon Operations Roberto R. Bernardo, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that a 323.2-lineal concrete river wall now protects residents of Barangay Magsalisi, Jaen, Nueva Ecija.

According Director Tolentino, the protective structure will prevent the overflowing of Pampanga River during torrential rains, which often result in loss of lives, damage to residential areas, and destruction of agricultural lands.

The river wall will not only safeguard Barangay Magsalisi in Jaen but also other nearby flood-prone communities in the municipalities of San Isidro and Sta. Rosa in Nueva Ecija as well as neighboring towns in Pampanga.

Funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the construction of the flood control structure in the amount of P62.3 million was implemented by DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO).
