The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a new river control project to reduce the potential risk of perennial flooding in the coastal municipality of Panitan, Capiz.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno explained that the completion of the revetment wall along the Panay/Mambusao River Basin in Barangay Balatucan now protects lives and properties during calamities and avoids inundation along roads near the river basin.

“The revetment wall also helped protect other local communities in Capiz as it minimized the damages caused by storm surge when tropical depression “Agaton” hit in April this year,” added Director Bueno.

Local officials have expressed their appreciation for the flood control project and the peace of mind it has brought to Panitan’s communities.

Costing P76.2 million, the 386-lineal meter revetment wall was implemented by DPWH Capiz 1st District Engineering Office.
