Residents of Cabanatuan City and the towns of Gabaldon and General Tinio in Nueva Ecija reap the benefits of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) completed road concreting projects in the areas.
DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the newly-concreted local and farm-to-market roads (FMR), all implemented by the DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO), has a total length of 3.07 kilometers.
Citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, DPWH Secretary Mercado identified the two (2) local roads as the Barangay Kalikid Sur Road in Cabanatuan City and the Barangay Ligaya Road in the municipality of Gabaldon.
The concreting of the local roads required a combined amount of P12.6 Million funded through the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022, DPWH Secretary Mercado added.
The projects were both completed earlier than the original schedules with the Barangay Kalikid Sur Road and Barangay Ligaya Road fully paved in February 2022 and March 2022, respectively.
Meanwhile, an old rough road, which turns muddy especially during the rainy season, has also been improved and concreted by DPWH in Barangay Padolina, General Tinio.
According to DPWH Secretary Mercado, the P12.3-Million concrete paving of the road was made possible through the convergence program of the DPWH and the Department of Agriculture (DA) with funding sourced from the 2021 GAA.
All the concreted roads now ensure smoother and safer travel for motorists and commuters, while at the same time uplifting local economies and livelihoods in Cabanatuan City, Gabaldon, and General Tinio through improving delivery of goods and services to and from the recipient communities.
“Improving local roads such as these ones from various locations in Nueva Ecija is of vital importance as we also put equal value in ensuring that even far-flung areas are included in our goal of a better-connected Philippines,” DPWH Secretary Mercado said.
