
The Department Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will hold this Thursday, November 11, 2021, its 7th Research Symposium which will once again stage studies and advancements in construction technology.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Roger G. Mercado, citing a report from DPWH Undersecretary for Technical Services Maximo L. Carvajal, said that a total of eight (8) ongoing and completed research papers by the DPWH, local and international companies, and the academe will be presented in this year’s event with the theme: Construction in the Era of New Normal.
“I laud the DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards for organizing this annual gathering of experts and professionals so we can contribute and be at par with the global standards in construction,” said Secretary Mercado.
“The construction industry – now more than ever – needs to invest in new technology so that we can be adaptive amid pandemic. These groundbreaking studies will allow us increase productivity, deliver sustainable, complex but cost-effective projects, and provide safer workplace for our field workers,” added Secretary Mercado.
Since its launching, the DPWH Research Symposium has showcased a total of 78 studies on construction technology which include the 70 from 2015 to 2020.
This year’s symposium will stage two (2) researches from the DPWH namely: “Evaluation of the Performance of Waste Tire Rubber - Modified Hot-Mix Asphalt” by the DPWH - Bureau of Research and Standards and the University of the Philippines Los Baños; and the “Influence of Anti-Corrosive Coatings on Bond Behavior of Corroded Rebar” by the DPWH Regional Office 9.
It wil also feature the following local and international studies: “Field Performance and Settlement Prediction of Soft Stratified Soils Improved with Prefabricated Vertical Drains Using Asaoka Graphical Method” by PGATECH Group of Companies; “Low Volume, Not Low Technology: The Use of Advanced Satellite and Stabilization Technology to Plan, Design and Construct Low Volume Roads in the Philippines” by Advanced Environmental Soil Solutions, Inc. (AESSI); “An Innovative and Cost Effective Rail Track Slab Design using Macro Synthetic Fibres” by BarChip Inc.; “Construction and Long-Term Performance of Interstate Constructed on EPS Geofoam on Soft Soil Sites in Salt Lake Valley, Utah, USA” by Macro Ind’l Packaging Products Corp.; “High Performance Micro Surfacing New Mixture Design Guidelines” by R.A. Kelman, Inc.; and “Unconfined Compressive Strength of Stabilized Clay Using Rice Hull Ash – Derived Geopolymer” by University of the Philippines – Diliman.
