PRRD Inaugurates Iconic Three-Point Bridge System, Sports and Tourism Complex in Siargao Island

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Saturday, November 6, 2021 led the inauguration of the iconic 3-Point bridge system and sports and tourism complex in Siargao Island, Surigao Del Norte.

The President was joined in the project inauguration by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Eugenio R. Pipo Jr. representing Acting Secretary Roger G. Mercado, Surigao Del Norte Governor Francisco T. Matugas, and Congressman Franciso Jose F. Matugas II.

Also present at the ceremonial inauguration held in Dapa, Siargao Island are Assistant Secretary Ador G. Canlas of DPWH Regional Operations in Mindanao, and Regional Director Pol Delos Santos and Assistant Director Nomer Canlas of DPWH Regional Office 13, Surigao Del Norte 1st District Engineer Alex Ramos, and other public works and local officials of the Province of Surigao Del Norte.

The construction of 348.8 meter Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge, 75.8 meter Libertad Bridge 1, and 36.8 meter Libertad Bridge 2 along the 11.847 kilometer Dapa Port–Consuelo-Corazon –Sta. Cruz–Sta. Fe–Libertad–Cabitoonan Catangnan–Gen. Luna Road will bolster tourism activities by providing unhampered and convenient travel experience among visitors.

This P848 million flagship infrastructure project implemented by DPWH Caraga Region will enhance the accessibility and mobility of people, goods and services in the country’s world-renowned surfing paradise.

The aesthetically designed and built Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge along the new alternate route from Dapa Port will link the Catangnan and Cabitoonan villages.

This bridge offer stunning sunset views and will provide added road travel attraction in Siargao Island.

Undeniably, Surigao Del Norte is one of the top destinations for local and foreign tourists alike not only for its pristine beaches, mystical underwater caves, parks and sanctuaries but also for the warm accommodation of the Surigaonons.

As a regular host of international sports events such as surfing, several big-ticket infrastructure projects supportive of sports development program and tourism in Siargao were also formally inaugurated.

Completed projects at the 6.3 hectare Siargao Sports Complex include the construction of multi-purpose buildings with basketball gym and volleyball and badminton indoor courts and for other different functions; 2-storey Siargao Sports High School Building; and other field improvements including site development to enhance accessibility, mobility and prevent flooding also at the sports complex located in Barangay Osmeña in the Municipality of Dapa.
