DPWH Works for Protection of San Pedro, Quirino from Flooding

Communities situated along the San Pedro watershed in Maddela, Quirino will soon be relieve of flooding woes with the on-going revetment structure project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the construction of San Pedro River Wall will improve Cagayan river channel and safeguard lives and agricultural properties of the people of Quirino Province.

Secretary Villar has instructed DPWH Regional Office 2 Director Loreta M. Malaluan to ensure the quality completion of the on-going protective structure measuring 418-meter in length and 9-meter in height to prevent water from the Cagayan River from affecting the low-lying areas of eight (8) barangays of Maddela, including San Pedro and two (2) sitios.

The P82.97-million revetment wall is equipped with 15-meter based gabion wires, grouted riprap provisions on steel sheet piles, reinforcement of grubbing, excavation, clearing and embankment works, and installation of concrete hexapods for additional support from vortices.

The San Pedro River Control Project will also protect the on-going construction of Abutment-B of San Pedro Bridge located in the upstream portion of the Cagayan River while also reducing soil erosion and secure hectares of agricultural land in Baran
