Motorists traversing along the mountainous terrain in San Fernando City, La Union can now have safer travel with the completion of a new slope protection structure.
Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the 113-meter slope protection system along San Fernando - Bagulin Road at Barangay Nagyubuyuban aims to protect residents and motorists from erosion and unstable soil slope especially during the rainy season.
Implemented by DPWH La Union First District Engineering Office (DEO), the P44-million project funded under the 2020 and 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) covers the installation of erosion control mats that has a minimal ecological impact.
Secretary Villar lauded the DPWH La Union First District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Jose G. Ginete Jr. for completing the project within five (5) months despite several restrictions implemented during this pandemic.
“With the completion of various infrastructure projects in the province, we are hoping that more tourists will visit to support La Union’s booming tourism industry,” said Secretary Villar.
