Construction of Sominot-Dumingag Road and Sominot-Mahayag Road that will provide ease of access to towns of Zamboanga del Sur are on track for completion.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar citing reports from Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia said that DPWH has completed a 2.24-kilometer segment of the Sominot-Dumingag Road Project under initial 2018 fund while the ongoing construction of another 2.66 kilometers under CY 2019 has reached 99.13 percent completion.
The 17.9-kilometer Sominot-Dumingag Road is a P788.5-million project with inclusion of road concreting, four (4) bridge constructions, and slope protection provision.
This bypass road will directly link the Municipality of Sominot and Municipality of Dumingag, serving as an alternate road that cuts the present one (1) hour and 30 minutes of intertown travel time to just 20 minutes, said Secretary Villar.
Meanwhile, the current civil works along the 2.64-kilometer segment of Sominot-Mahayag Road is already 99.18 percent completed.
With a completed 2.39-kilometer portion under phase 1, this P578-million road project involves 15.7-kilometer road concreting, bridge rehabilitation, construction of slope protection and drainage.
The new alternate route is expected to significantly shorten to just 15 minutes the present one (1) hour travel time between the towns of Sominot and Mahayag, added Secretary Villar.
