Regional Office Starts Repair of Calumpang Bridge in Batangas

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

The Rehabilitation and Retrofitting Project of Calumpang Bridge under DPWH Region IV-A is now undergoing repair after a Notice to Proceed has been issued by the Regional Office last January 28, 2015.

This 22-year old bridge was destroyed by Typhonn Glenda in July 2014. The destruction caused traffic congestion along alternate routes in the city. A month after the destruction, the provincial government had set priorities to rebuild the said bridge.

The bidding of the said project took more than two (2) months, encountering three (3) readvertisements and subsequent re-biddings. It was first on November 14, 2014 but letters of withdrawal were submitted by the bidders due to justifiable reasons. The bidding was later declared as failure by BAC.

The project was then readvertised on December 5, 2014, and on the day of bidding, failure of bidding was once again unanimously declared by BAC to no prospective bidders.

BAC then recommended a Negotiated Agreement but Director Samson L. Hebra instructed on conducting a third bidding instead. The project was readvertised on December 30, 2014. And on January 20, 2015, the project was finally bid out and awarded to JBL Builders/William Uy Construction Corporation.

The repair of Calumpang Bridge amounting to P63,478,735.03 started on January27, 2015 and is expected to be completed in seven to eight months.
