Villar: 18 rainwater collectors installed in Biliran

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has put up 18 rainwater harvesting faciliites in various schools and government buildings of Biliran Province in an effort to conserve water resources.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, citing District Engineer David P. Adongay of DPWH Biliran District Engineering Office’s report, said that in the amount of P4.5 million, rainwater collector systems were installed to accumulate rainwater from the roof of buildings rather than letting it run off.

“We are harvesting rainwater that can be used for a number of purposes, but mainly as a low to zero cost source of water to flush toilets and water plants of these receiving buildings,” said Secretary Villar.

Six (6) rainwater collectors were installed in in the municipality of Biliran, five (5) in the island town of Mariripi, three (3) each in Culaba and Almeria towns, and one (1) in Naval.

In the municipality of Biliran, recipients of the project include: Biliran Province State University, Biliran Campus; Biliran Science High School; Busali Elementary School; Burabod Elementary School, Pinangomhan Elementary School and DPWH Field Office.

Rainwater collectors were also installed at Barangay Hall in Binongto-an village, Barangay Hall in Ermita village, Canduhao Elementary School and Rural health Unit (RHU) and Philippine National Police (PNP) office, Mariripi town.

In Culaba, recipients were Acaban Elementary School, Bool Elementary School and San Roque Elementary School. Rainwater collectors were likewise installed in Matanggo Elementary School, Talahid Elementary School and Pili Elementary School in Almeria town, and in at Sabang Elementary School in the municipality of Naval.
