A 2.04-kilometer portion of 2-lane Dapa-General Luna Road in Barangay Osmeña in Dapa town, Siargao Island is being improved and asphalted to provide smoother driving experience to locals and tourists.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that asphalting of Dapa-General Luna Road is among the priority projects in Siargao Island as it is widely-used and leads motorists to the famous surfing spot at Cloud 9 in the municipality General Luna.
According to Secretary Villar, the P59.27-million asphalting project is now 89.42 percent completed and is targeted for completion by October 2020, considering the restrictions due to COVID-19.
DPWH Surigao del Norte 1st District Engineering Office has substantially completed the project, with only remaining works on the last layer of asphalt and application of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings to guide motorists at night.
“Motorcycle is the major mode of transportation on the island. With asphalted road, land travel towards the surfing areas on a motorcycle will definitely smoother, safer and more convenient,” said Secretary Villar.
