New patient monitoring system is being installed at the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) with the assistance of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Acting on the request of Dr. Gloanne C. Adolor of the Lung Center and with instructions from Secretary Mark A. Villar, Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain reported that installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) video surveillance and cardiac monitor for each of the 24 rooms of one (1) LCP ward for COVID patients has started on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
Secretary Villar said that the patient cardiac monitor will enhance LCP response mechanism and capability to handle COVID-19 cases.
Cardiac monitors are very essential for the protection of both patients and healthcare workers especially against the risk of infection from COVID patients in isolation and undergoing treatment.
With the advancement of technology such as cardiac monitors, health workers can closely attend patients' condition without direct exposure, added Secretary Villar.
The manpower services were sponsored free by Nationstar Development Corporation President Al Tengco, with some thirty (30) workers armed with tools handling the sensitive job of installing monitors, cabling and minor expansion works at the hospital laboratory.
DPWH provided all workers with personal protective equipment donated by generous organizations to prevent getting direct exposure to LCP patients and hospital environment.
Secretary Villar expressed appreciation to the volunteerism act of Nationstar, living up the spirit of “Bayanihan to Heal as One” as the Filipino nation continues to deal with COVID-19 crisis.
