The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed two (2) new school facilities at Sara National High School (SNHS) in Iloilo.

A construction of a PhP 4-million covered court funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA) was completed last November 9, 2019, almost two months ahead its scheduled completion date of January 6, 2020.

District Engineer Flordelis C. Enriquez of DPWH Iloilo 3rd DEO said the project now serves as a venue for various academic, social and cultural activities like the division level of Festival of Talents participated by various schools in the province which SHNS hosted on November 8-10, 2019.

“We requested the contractor to employ additional workforce and work double time to complete the project in advance, hence, the project was completed earlier than scheduled,” Enriquez said.

In May 2019, DPWH also built a new two-storey ICT Laboratory building for senior high school in SNHS which costed PhP 12.79 million backed by the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF).

“Every year, the enrolment increases because of the better facilities in Sara National High School. Students studying in our school are not only from the town of Sara but also from nearby towns of Ajuy, Iloilo and Maayon, Capiz,” SNHS principal Lolita B. Datoon said.

With almost 4,000 students in SNHS, the ICT building not only provide proper facility conducive to learning but also a solution to student congestion problem due to lack of classrooms.
