The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) rehabilitates the C-5 tunnel which was once called as the “biggest comfort room” in Metro Manila.
Under the Routine Maintenance Program, DPWH thru the Quezon City 2nd Engineering District improves C-5 tunnel by sealing leakages in panels and removal of stained wall tiles. Additional lights were also installed to further prevent any vehicular accident.
Earlier, DPWH-Quezon City 2nd District Engineering Office (QCSED), conducted detailed inspection at the tunnel after it was observed that water leakages, which cause untidy appearance on tiled wall, were coming from natural ground water behind the walls, as well as the drainage system above the interchange.
Tunnel walls are also scheduled to be painted to improve the appearance, considering that the interchange is a significant component of C-5 Road, an alternative route for EDSA connecting North and South Luzon Expressway.
Aside from C-5 Boni Serrano/ Katipunan Interchange, DPWH also plans to apply the same solution to other tunnels/ underpass that bear same noted seepage problems.
The Quezon City 2nd Engineering District also prioritized and completed road projects such as asphalt overlay in East Avenue, improvement/ concrete widening of Maginhawa Street, completion of concreting and improvement of Masambahin Street, rehabilitation of Katipunan Avenue, and drainage improvement along Pres. Garcia Avenue all in Quezon City.
Other DPWH- Quezon City 2nd Engineering District completed projects include concreting work in Maaralin Street, asphalt overlay along Quezon Avenue to East Bound (Intermittent Section), construction of pedestrian overpass along C-5 Brgy. Libis, and the completion of drainage improvement at Camp Aguinaldo Compound.
