
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) reports 72.49% accomplishment of school building projects under 2018 Department of Education Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF-DepEd).
Biliran DEO implements a total of 17 school building projects worth P118.25M.
As of July 31, 2019, 10 school buildings worth P36.48M are already completed with a total of 23 classrooms.
DPWH-Biliran DEO has finished the construction of school buildings in Manlabang National High School in Naval town, Bilwang Elementary School and Villa Cornejo Elementary School in Kawayan town, Langgao Elementary School in Cabucgayan town, Burabod Elementary School and Filemon Nierras Memorial Elementary School in Biliran town, Caibiran Sped Center, Caibiran Central School and Cabibihan Elementary School in Caibiran town and Iyosan Elementary School in Almeria town.
Meanwhile, seven school buildings worth P81.778M are still on-going with a total of 37 classrooms.
According to David P. Adongay Jr., District Engineer, project engineers are directed to closely monitor the implementation of these projects to ensure that quality standard design for school building are followed by the contractors.
Adongay emphasized that school buildings are vital infrastructure projects and as crucial as national roads and bridges.
“Better school building facilities helps improve the teaching capacity of our teachers and in return improves students’ performance,” he added.
Adongay said that these school buildings are designed to be earthquake and calamity resilient.
“During typhoons, our school buildings can also be used as evacuation centers.” he said.
