DPWH 8 all set to celebrate its 121st Anniversary

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to kick off its 3-day activities in celebration of its 121st Anniversary and Sportsfest on June 19-21, 2019 at the DPWH Regional Office 8 compound, Baras, Palo, Leyte after the launching of Regional “One Town One Product” Exhibits at the DPWH Central Office, Port Area, Manila today.

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme: “DPWH: Gabay tungo sa Konkretong Pag-unlad” which emphasizes the sustainable infrastructure projects delivered through the years that helped drives Philippines' economic growth and competitiveness vital to the improvement of the quality of life of all Filipinos.

The said branding, “Konkreto 2022”, sets out three major outcomes in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals that is (1) reduction of travel time, (2) improving the quality of the roads—especially on safety — and (3) protecting the lives and properties from natural disasters.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2019, the regional and 13 district engineering offices employees will unite to celebrate its founding anniversary. The anniversary program will commence with a thanksgiving mass, followed by a parade, awarding of Best Muse, Ceremonial Toss, Ball Games, and Opening of Exhibit Booth and Food Trade Fair. The Cheer Dance Competition, one of the highlights of day one (1) activity will start in the afternoon.

The DPWH Got Talent featuring “All Man’s Band” is the highlight activity on the eve of second day of the anniversary. This will showcase the talents of male DPWH employees region wide.
Last day activity is the awarding ceremony for the winners of the different competitions.

The anniversary is hosted by The DPWH Regional Federation Employees Union.

DPWH traces its roots to the Department of War and Public Works, one (1) of the first four (4) Departments of the Philippine Revolutionary Government created by virtue of then President Emilio Aguinaldo’s Organic Decree in June 23, 1898.
