On May 9, 2019, five days before the national midterm election, DPWH together with the COMELEC and PNP resumed the “Oplan Baklas” in the whole province and removed campaign posters along national higways which located at undesignated areas and with illegal sizes.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) led the activity, assisted by DPWH field personnel for additional manpower on the operation and Philippine National Police (PNP) for the security.
According to Engr. Rodrigo Sugalan of DPWH, that the DPWH team gathered a lot of illegal posters in the whole city of Borongan and in other municipalities.
He disclosed that they were already removed illegal posters during the kick-off of the election campaign, and he added that as the election comes nearer, more violations on posting campaign materials were observed.
The DPWH ESDEO maintenance section resumed the “Oplan Baklas” operation on May 9, 2019 and according to Engr. Sugalan, it will continue until the end of election.
