A revetment wall will soon rise along Manloy river in Carigara town, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte second district engineering office reported.
The concrete structure is meant to provide protection to the community of Manloy village that is critical to flooding during heavy downpour.
Gerald Pacanan, DPWH Leyte head engineer said that the Php 13 million flood control structure will measure 438 linear meters starting from the existing spillway bridge downstream.
“This is a priority project of the government as it aims to provide solution to the frequent flooding in this area that could lead to bigger problem if not properly and immediately mitigated,” he said.
During the preconstruction meeting on May 21, 2019 at Manloy, residents and barangay officials expressed their strong support for the implementation of the project.
“This is a dream project for us. And, we in the council are planning to draft another resolution to extend the concrete wall to the whole stretch of the riverbank,” said Maria Elvira Reyes, Manloy village chariman.
For 2018, the district implemented a total of six flood control projects worth P214 million.
