The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 1st Engineering District, has completed the construction, rehabilitation and improvement of the flood control project along Limbuhan River in Brgy. Limbuhan, Tanauan, Leyte.

The span length of the river control system is 140 lineal meters from Chainage 1090 to Chainage 1230 which amounted to Php 18,610,736.04 and funded under the 2018 GAA. The project was completed in 140 calendar days.

The project is located alongside the national highway which makes it vulnerable flooding when the water level rises.

Thus, the rehabilitation and improvement of the said project included steel sheet pile with gabions and stone masonry to avoid hollow out and damage of the existing structure, making it capable to contain a higher volume of water. This would then prevent damage to properties and protect lives in the nearby low-lying barangays.

“Allocating funds for the construction of a river control system needs some form of flood protection engineering to which the district carefully undertook,” said District Engineer Johnny M. Acosta.
