The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo Third District Office has recently adopted the use of an eco-friendly and convenient slope protection technique, Active Protection System (APS), for its projects to improve soil and rock stability from erosion at Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road in northern Iloilo.
The 40 million peso project in Barotac Viejo Section cuts the massive excavation process and retains the slope’s natural ground through hydroseeding, uses a high tensile wire mesh to keep rock masses in place and prevent debris from falling.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar hopes that its installation in more areas will benefit more people as the plans to expand its usage as erosion control material to prevent geological disasters.
“With its expansion, the system promises not only environmental benefits and convenience but also protection for more motorists and road users who traverse slide prone areas in Iloilo,” Secretary Villar said.
The 72 lineal meter long slope protection structure project in Iloilo is expected to be completed in October this year.
