A 140 million flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Labason River will soon relieve flooding woes in Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.
Communities in coastal low-lying areas frequently experienced destruction of properties and interruption of commerce and trade due to flooding during the rainy season.
Through the 718 lineal meter river control project, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the DPWH will be able to provide much-needed protective structure for resident susceptible to flooding including the protection of the Labason Bridge along Liloy- Siocon National Road.
“DPWH understands how such disasters can hinder economic development and impede the daily lives of Filipinos. We recognize its urgency and we shall continue exploring effective measures on flood mitigation,” Secretary Villar said.
The construction of the flood control is expected to be completed by November 2019.
