A new Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) office in Babatngon, Leyte may now be used as an avenue to consolidate risk information, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar announced Thursday.

According to Secretary Villar, the new DRRM Office located at the Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Center (RIARC) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Barangay Bagong Silang, Babatngon, Leyte was constructed by DPWH Regional Office 8 to facilitate quick disaster response efforts.

The P2.9-million building project was completed within five (5) months to serve as an avenue to organize disaster response teams during calamities.

DPWH Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno said that they have also completed the rehabilitation of a DA Experiment Station Administrative Building in the same area.

A total of P3.9-million was allocated under the DA Trust Fund for the rehabilitation of the building which will accommodate various members of the agriculture and food production sector.

“We are hopeful that these new structures will promote better resource-planning and boost the socioeconomic development of the province of Leyte,” said Secretary Villar.
