DPWH readies Guimaras roads for Holy Week

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ensured the preparedness of national roads in Guimaras in anticipation for the influx of tourists for the Lenten Season.

According to DPWH Guimaras District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal, a total of 128.962 kilometers of national road network in the province are all paved, 121.345 kilometers from which are concrete paved while the remaining 7.007 kilometers are asphalt overlaid.

“For the past years, both local and foreign tourists flock in the province to witness the famous “Pagtaltal sa Bala-an Bukid” and it is our duty to make sure that all roads and bridges are in good condition for the safety of all the commuters,” Nuñal added.

She also said that 601.65 lineal meters of bridges are all in good condition and accessible, providing links to various tourist destinations in the province.

Meantime, DPWH VI Regional Director Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. instructed all District Engineering Offices in the region to reactivate the “Lakbay Alalay” program, installing a Motorist Assistance Center in strategic areas all over the region to give prompt assistance to the general public for the Holy Week.

He also ordered all District Engineers to ensure that national roads are maintained and passable at all times, obstructions should be removed and necessary informative/directional signs be installed to guide the motorists and the traveling public.
