Friday, March 22, 2019

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region VI joined the week-long celebration of “World Water Day Ph 2019” with the theme: “Hawak kamay, Tubig Kaagapay” organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 6 - Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in collaboration with different National Government Agencies (NGAs), private organizations, schools and Local Government Units (LGUs) in Iloilo from March 19-22, 2019.

Said activity highlighted various activities such as: photo exhibits, coastal clean-up, Jog-Pick and Dance – a Zumba fitness activity with clean up in Iloilo Esplanade and a workshop on Iloilo Watershed Management Center and Technical Group (IWMC-TWG) and Watershed Councils Action Planning in Casa Real, at the Old Provincial Capitol, Iloilo City.

This year’s theme was derived from the international theme, “Leaving no one behind”, in line with the continuing campaign and fostering advocacy for the protection, conservation and sustainable management of the country’s water resources and giving attention on community refugees and human rights.

The first World Water Day was celebrated March 22, 1993 after the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development recommended an international observance for water.

Said celebration is being held annually since then and aims to inspire people around the world to learn more about water related issues, to take action and make a difference.
