Traveling in the southern portion of Negros Occidental is easier and more comfortable with the widening of some portions of Bacolod South Road.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Negros Occidental 4th District Engineering Office completed the widening of Bacolod South Road in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

According to District Engineer Genaro M. Panganiban, the widening project is divided into two phases, with the total allocation of P100.0 million. Phase 1 includes widening of 3.878 kilometers road from Brgy. 2 to Brgy. 3 and Brgy. Canroma, while phase 2 involves widening of 3.112 kilometers from Brgy. Canroma to Brgy. Recreo and crossing Balangigay, Brgy. Miranda.

The project involves widening from the existing two lanes to four lanes (one lane in each side) along Bacolod South Road in the town of Pontevedra with Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP), including drainage system and road-right-of-way acquisition.

“The widened road network gives comfort to passers-by going to cities and towns in the fourth district of the province. The widened road also provides faster delivery of goods and services from Bacolod City to southern Negros and vice versa,” he said.

“The widened road would encourage both local and foreign tourists to visit various destinations in different areas in southern Negros, hence, boosting tourism and economy in the area,” he added.

Meanwhile, Panganiban mentioned that they are implementing continuous improvement along the whole stretch of Bacolod South Road along with other District Engineering Offices in the southern part of the province.

“We will be implementing more widening works along Bacolod South Road this year and the coming years. DPWH, Negros Occidental 2nd and 4th District Engineering Offices are also working on widening of the said road network, within their areas of jurisdiction,” he said.
