
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar announced the completion of a total of six (6) revetment structures that now protects various flood-prone municipalities of Zamboanga Sibugay, in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region.
Secretary Villar said that Zamboanga Sibugay 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) has delivered to full completion in the fourth quarter of 2018 the following projects: 510-lineal meter flood control structure at Barangay Guintoloan costing P25 million and the 656-lineal meter wall Barangay Sta. Clara costing P30 million in the municipality of Naga; the 680-lineal meter structure along Sibuguey River or the Phase VII in the town of Siay, costing P45 million.
Other completed projects are: the 183.6-lineal meter revetment wall along Kabasalan River in Pena Kabasalan costing P25 million; 160-lineal meter structure along Sanito River, in the town of Ipil costing P17.95 million; and the 164-lineal meter revetment structure along Tungawan River in the municipality of Tungawan costing P9.65 million.
“These projects with combined cost of P109 million are essential in keeping residents of the low-lying barangays of Zamboanga Sibugay safe from flooding,” said Secretary Villar.
DPWH Zamboanga Sibugay 2nd District Engineer Najib D. Dilangalen said that aside from the recently completed six (6) revetment walls, nine (9) other ongoing flood-control projects are being fast-tracked for completion this year under her DEO.
