Assistant Regional Director and Officer-In-Charge Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr. led the unveiling of marker during the launching of “Journey to ISO 9001:2008 Certification” of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Regional Office VI.

The launched was organized by the core team headed by Engr. Jose Al V. Fruto, who has been attending various trainings and workshops on ISO certification.

In his remark, ARD Leaño underscores the need to adhere with the eight (8) quality management principles as fundamental to gaining certification of the Quality Management System. The Quality Management Principles which includes customer focus, leadership, involvement of people, process approach, system approach to management, continual improvement, factual approach to decision making, and mutually beneficial supplier relationship not only provide the foundation for the rest of the requirements, but more importantly provide the framework for introducing good management practice to underpin the organization’s management systems.

Leaño said that gaining ISO Certification depends on the employees of DPWH Region 6.

“The most important to me is the employees’ participation, support and cooperation to become successful in the journey to ISO certification,” said Dir. Leaño.

In addition, Engr. Fruto explained the theme: “Doing Things Right; Doing the Right Things,” which means efficiency and effectiveness.

He also explained that the slogans are consistent with the guiding principles on quality management which are primarily focused on customers, that means meeting requirement and exceeding customer expectations.

The launching highlighted the signing of commitment and support on the journey to ISO certification. The signature campaign was spearheaded by ARD Leaño, followed by QMS Core team, division chiefs and all employees of the Regional Office.

ISO or the International Organization of Standardization is a world-wide federation of national standards, bodies with representatives from each of the approximately 167 countries, including the Philippines.

The DPWH Head Office in Manila including National Capital Region office and Region XI in Davao City are already ISO certified, hence all other Regional Offices are currently gearing up for certification.

In Western Visayas, the Department of Budget and Management and the Western Visayas Medical Center were among the government offices which are ISO certified.
