The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the widening from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes of portions of Ormoc-Baybay-Southern Leyte Boundary Road in Baybay City, Leyte.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Leyte Fifth District Engineering Office chief Eusebio T. Culas said the road’s over 5.175 -kilometer intermittent sections in barangays Pangasugan, Marcos, Hilapnitan, and Maybog of Baybay City are now providing ease to motorists heading to Ormoc City and other parts of northern Leyte.

District Engineer Culas said the 4-lane road now benefits about 1,000-3,000 motorists per day including locals, farmers, tourists, and students going to economic hubs, tourism sites, education and health centers.

The amount of P150 million was allocated for the road widening project which also covers drainage and slope protection components.

Meanwhile, District Engineer Culas asked for continued support from the general public and local government units (LGUs) against the prohibited use of road right-of-way (RROW) along the widened national roads.

DE Culas explained that road obstruction violations such as illegal parking of vehicles and drying of crops along national roads cause traffic congestion, pose danger to the motoring public, bikers, and pedestrians and prevent the force utilization of roads.

“We are widening our roads and bridges to decongest traffic and provide ease to our motorists. We hope that the public will help us keep our roads clear from any form of obstruction so it can serve its purpose,” said DE Culas.
