DPWH clears Batanes road from landslide due to ‘Habagat’; braces for Super Typhoon “Mangkhut”

The motoring public is advised that as of 9:00 am Wednesday, September 12, 2018, the K0023+300 section of Basco-Mahatao-Ivana-Uyugan-Imnajbu Road is temporary closed to traffic due to landslide.

The Department of Public Works and Highways Batanes District Engineering Office (DEO) has deployed 11 maintenance personnel with pay loader, dump truck, and backhoe equipment to clear affected road section.

With clearing activities on-going, motorists may take Uyugan-Mahatao Interior Road as an alternative route.

All other national roads and bridges in Batanes are passable to all type of vehicles.

In preparation for the Super Typhoon “Mangkhut” with local name“Ompong”, DPWH Batanes DEO has also mobilized Disaster Response Teams in strategic locations to undertake pre-disaster activities in the province.

The deployed Disaster Response Teams with heavy equipment are all set to conduct prompt clearing operations, as well as road and bridge restoration.
