Monday, September 10, 2018

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will join the largest volunteer effort for ocean's health in cleanup activities of coastal waters north of Manila Bay on Saturday, September 15, 2018 as part of the celebration of the 33rd International Coastal Clean Up (ICC).

Volunteer officials and employees of the DPWH Central Office will participate in the cleanup activities at Baseco Compound, Tondo, Manila together with volunteers from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Tourism, Department of Education, and Department of Transportation.

ICC Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCGA) will be spearheading the ICC activities consistent with the Presidential Proclamation No. 470, series of 2003 declaring every third Saturday of September of each year as the International Coastal Clean Up Day, and September as National Clean-up Month.

Record information on the trash and debris that will be collected will be used by Ocean Conservancy's ICC to produce a trash index that will guide governments and industries in crafting better waste management policies/plans, product packaging designs and in stirring environmental consciousness among the people.

The International Coastal Clean Up Day is a joint program of various public and private organization in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal and management and reduction of individual plastic footprint in saving our oceans.
