With the accomplishment rate of 85.88%, the drainage construction along the national road of Batanes Province is nearing completion within two months.

The P16.81 million project is implemented by Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 02 through the Batanes District Engineering Office.

Curb and gutter were built along the national road which connects the municipalities of Basco, Mahatao, Ivana, Uyugan and Imnajbu. Other improvement activities also include the construction of cross drainage works and concreting of the road shoulder/sidewalks.

The project aims to reduce flooding and landslides, ensure the smooth flow of transportation and comfort of the riding public especially during rainy season as the province is frequently visited by typhoons.

“DPWH continues to fulfil its mandate of implementing projects that are responsive to the needs of the public,” Assistant Regional Director Alexander Nola said.

“Through this drainage construction, we provide a proactive response in mitigating possible problems that may arise during calamities like flash flood,” he added.

Construction for the said project began on February 9, 2016 and is funded under General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2016.
