The P34.65 million flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 02 installed at Cupas River in Brgy. San Leonardo, Bambang, proved its efficacy as it averted any possible disaster-related problems that may arise when the water level has increased due to the weeklong rain.
“The Cupas Flood Control Project helped in preventing occurrence of flash flood because it blocked the influx of water to the roads, houses, and agricultural lands, and protected lives during the recent rain showers caused by the southwest monsoon (Habagat),” said District Engineer Rodolfo Torralba Jr. of Nueva Vizcaya 1st District Engineering Office, in a statement.
According to DE Torralba, the project was fortified with the construction of a rubble concrete revetment with series of training dike and embankment at the bank to plug water inflow.
Locals also expressed their appreciation to the project. Construction started last February of this year and was completed after five months. It was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2016.
