August 12 Jobs Jobs Jobs Caravan kicks off with 10k jobs

Over 10,000 jobs await jobseekers in a mega job fair on Sunday, 12 August 2018, the kick-off of a nationwide Build Build Build = Jobs Jobs Jobs Caravan of the government under the Build Build Build infrastructure program.

President Rodrigo Duterte will grace the job fair, which will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

According to Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, the event will have multiple participants from the construction sector.

“We invited employers and contractors from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) who handle Build Build Build projects. Representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) will also be present”, Villar noted.

On top of the thousands of jobs from the Build Build Build contractors, additional job openings will also be offered by companies invited by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP).

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III elaborated that available positions during the event would cover not just building, construction, architecture, and engineering. There will also be positions in the clerical & administrative; accounting & finance; computer & IT; human resources; communications & public relations; legal; sales & marketing; management & operations; research & development; customer service; security; hospitality; medical & health care; procurement & supply chain; education & training; production & quality; property & asset management; and creatives & design.

“The government’s infrastructure spending program will significantly increase economic growth not only in the National Capital Region (NCR) but also in far flung areas. We are pursuing not just better infrastructure for our countrymen but also the improvement of the quality of life for every Filipino,” Dominguez stated.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III encouraged jobseekers to take advantage of the job opportunities offered during the caravan which is also slated in other parts of the country in the coming weeks.

“We specially call on our returning skilled OFWs to grab the greater chance of being locally employed with many available highly competitive openings under our government’s aggressive infrastructure program,” Bello said.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade expressed that the Build Build Build is constantly gaining momentum and will continue to improve in the coming years.

“At the start of the Duterte administration in 2016, employment in the construction sector was already at 3.381 million. The numerous opportunities we created through the Build Build Build program is only part of our endeavors”, Tugade reiterated.

Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno also stated that the Build Build Build is vital in improving livelihood opportunities in our country.

“Unemployment rate has already decreased from 5.7% to 5.5%. We plan to further decrease this figure in the coming years by implementing more projects for the people,” Diokno noted.

Economic and Development Secretary Ernesto Pernia further noted that the increase in infrastructure spending is expected to create around one million direct and indirect jobs annually.

“The investments we have received in construction sector grew by 10.1% just from the first quarter of 2018. Public construction has already expanded by 25.1%”, Pernia added.

Job seekers are likewise reminded to bring the pre-registration confirmation (if applicable), copies of resume/bio data, ID picture, ball pen, and valid IDs on the day of the event.

To serve applicants with incomplete pre-employment documents, a one-stop shop will be set up at the Jobs Jobs Jobs Caravan. It will have booths from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for clearance documents; Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for issuance of birth and marriage certificates; Social Security System, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Bureau of Internal Revenue for processing of memberships.

Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vivencio Dizon said the Jobs caravan complements the government’s commitment to achieve inclusive growth.

“Jobs created by the infrastructure build-up will further boost the employment rate in the country, already at 94.5 percent in April this year. These employment opportunities reflect the continued economic growth under the Duterte administration,” Dizon emphasized.
