New and improved roads will be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in hopes of making tourism sites of Southern Leyte more accessible to both locals and tourists.
According to DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia, a total of P137-million was allocated for the 2018 Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP) which involves the paving of roads leading to the province’s tourist destinations, including the construction of covered canal and slope protection structure.
“With DPWH’s unified effort with the Department of Tourism in unlocking economic opportunities in rural communities, we were able to identify these tourism road project sites as we endeavor to spur more activities in the province,” Engr. Junia said.
The road projects will provide easy access to the following tourist destinations in Southern Leyte: Mainit Hot Spring in the town of Anahawan, Crater Lake in San Juan town, Monte Cueva and Danao Camp Tree Park in Maasin City, Bitoon Beach in Liloan town, Buenavista Dive Site in Padre Burgos town, Calag-itan Fish Sanctuary and Doña Marta and Casa Isabel Cave in Hinunangan town, and Hindag-an Falls in St. Bernard town.
Paved road would allow people to enjoy a pleasant travel experience and do fun-filled activities in Southern Leyte such as diving, caving, extreme adventures, nature-tripping, river and crater Lake trekking, rainforest tramping, scuba diving, whale shark interaction, and beach and island escapades.
As part of the 0+10-point economic agenda of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, DPWH continues to implement projects that will promote rural and value chain development toward increasing agricultural and rural enterprise productivity and rural tourism.
