Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Heading the call of the DPWH Management thru the Mindanao Cluster Regional Directors, dpwh Region 9 extended its full support to the “Task Force Bangon Marawi” by deploying its personnel and heavy equipment like dump trucks, excavators, loaders, bulldozers and rollers as early as July 2017 to aide in the rehabilitation efforts in Marawi.

The activities done by the DPWH 9 personnel include site clearing, ground works such as road network and pathways, base preparation for the tent and transporting of aggregates from source to site involving equipment. The first evacuation center was established at Pantar, Lanao del Norte.

The improvement of sanitary conditions in the evacuation centers and in the establishment of a Transition Shelter (Tent City) was implemented by DPWH Disaster Response Team Mindanao Cluster (Regions IX, X, XII and XIII) by virtue of Administrative Order No. 3 dated June 28, 2017, creating an Inter-Agency Task Force for the Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of the City of Marawi, to be known as “Task Force Bangon Marawi” with the Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) as the Chairperson and the Secretary of DPWH as the Vice-Chairperson.

With the onset of the ongoing crisis in Marawi City, the DPWH personnel risk their lives to help speed up rehabilitation so that shelters for the evacuees be available soonest possible.
