Bridge experts from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office will undertake ten (10) –days repair work at Larapan temporary bridge in Linamon, Lanao del Norte. The repair works which will be done for four (4) hours daily starting March 11, 2014, will require total bridge closure during the idle hour of 10:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon so that motorists may utilize the bridge during the usual travel peak hour. Uncontrollable passage of loaded trucks surpassing the temporary bridge allowable load limit prompted the DPWH Region 10 to request the expertise of engineers from DPWH Head Office to undertake immediate repair. “The safety of bridge users is of paramount importance, hence, before any untoward incident happens, there is a need to re-check the workmanship of the temporary bridge where vehicles with load limit of more than 20 tons reportedly pass through”, said Secretary Rogelio L. Singson. It can be recalled that Larapan Bridge along Linamon-Zamboanga Road collapsed at the height of heavy rains due to the low pressure area (LPA) last January 13, 2014. A one-lane temporary steel bridge was installed and finally opened to traffic by the DPWH Region 10 and Lanao del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office last January 27, 2014 for vehicles with load limit of 20 tons (truck plus cargo) in gross weight.
