Residents of low lying barangays in the towns of Luna and Bangar, La Union will no longer have to bear with flooding, as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) aims to complete this October its P26-million Borobor River Control Project.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said the improvement project which started in March 2017 is being implemented by DPWH La Union First District Engineering Office.

It involves the construction of revetment with gabions or wire baskets filled with cobbles and crushed stones that will stabilize the Borobor River cliff.

The river control project traverses barangays Rimos in Luna town and Paratong in Bangar, La Union which are normally flooded by overflow of Borobor River during typhoon and rainy season.

“By October, people residing near Borobor River will benefit with this improvement since gabions are ideal solution to decelerate and dissipate the water flow of the river,” said Director Tan.
