The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now halfway complete with the construction of 642-meter flood control dike in Tagoloan River in the town of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The Tagoloan River Sub-Project – Stage 1, which is being implemented by the Unified Project Management Office-Flood Control Management Cluster (UPMO-FCMC), will soon be functional to help strengthen the capability in disaster risk management of areas within and near the said river.
According to UPMO-FCMC Project Director Patrick Gatan, the P133-million project involving the construction of river dikes and excavation of river channel together with drainage channel improvement is being fast tracked to meet the target completion date.
“We are doing our best to complete this dike by the second quarter of 2018 to minimize flooding incidents in Tagoloan that pose great threat to life, livelihood and properties of the townspeople,” said Gatan.
Meanwhile, the Stage 2 of the flood control project which covers the downstream section of Tagoloan River is now 38.5% finished and scheduled to be completed by 2019.
The Tagoloan River is among the river basins included in the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Flood Risk Management Project (FRIMP).
